Rob Roy is an excellent movie based in the Scottish Highlands.

Its the story of corruption and revenge. Not often do I truly hate a villain in a movie or book but Tim Roth´s portrayal of a villain in this movie is outstanding. You really want to see him get what he deserves. If you liked Braveheart, you will love Rob Roy.

Piers Anthony has a variety of series. Probably one his most famous is the Xanth (not one of my favorites however). My favorites include:

  • The Apprentice Adept Series
This series is about 2 worlds that exist side by side. One being a world of science and the other a world of magic. This combination of 2 worlds provides for some very entertaining reading. This series is well worth the time.

  • Incarnations of Immortality Series
The first couple of books in the series rate very high on my list of MUST reads. The first in the series "On a Pale Horse" gives a very interesting look at Death and what it would be like to end peoples lives from Death´s perspective. The 3rd in the series, "With a Tangled Skein" is also very well written. The series should be read in order as there is a plot that carries all the way through.

  • The Mode Series
In this series, Colene, the main character is a troubled young girl who goes on very fascinating journey. This has to be at times the most shocking series of Piers Anthony´s I have read. There series contains some very Mature subject matter but is very thought provoking.

  • Tarot Series
This series is currently out of print. But you should be able to find it a used bookstore. Not one of Piers Anthony´s best series, it is any interesting story dealing with religious struggles. This is one series besides Xanth that I don´t recommend.

Piers Anthony has numerous other books, series and collaborations. In his more recent books (somewhere around 1990 I think) he also started to write a few pages in the back of his books telling us about what was happening in his life while he was writing that particular book. I find that very enjoyable reading, as he gives some insight into what was going through his mind and what influences his writing. This was particularly interesting during the Mode Series. I wish more authors would do this.
